YouTube could remove the countdown timer that indicates when some ads become skippable. With the new version, the video viewing platform wants to make sure users are more immersed in ads, but it is also leaving the option to skip – and it will not be clear when this will be possible as before.
The largest video-watching platform has already pulled the plug on users several times, primarily with ads that drive YouTube viewers crazy — more precisely, by showing more and more of them before and during videos.
In addition, the Google subsidiary recently began testing a new functionality, which will not only improve the user experience, but will ruin it even more. As you know, ads at the beginning of videos cannot be skipped for five seconds, and then only “skip” or… ““Skip” button – its arrival is indicated by a countdown timer.
However, this countdown will soon disappear from the bottom right corner of videos,
So, from now on, it won't show the user exactly when an ad becomes skippable. It is important to note that YouTube will not remove the ability to skip ads, but in the future it will be less clear when the user will be able to do so, notes Robot police.
YouTube responded
YouTube management also responded to the newspaper's article, which confirmed in its statement that it would not deprive users of the ability to skip video clips. The countdown timer has been removed so that viewers can better immerse themselves in the ads shown and not wait until they can skip them. However, there are also plans to introduce a progress bar at the bottom of the screen, which indicates the amount of time remaining in the selected ad.
For now, Optimization has only been enabled through a test run for random users, but in the future it may be more widely used by YouTube.
