Index – Economy – Peter Szijjarto: If we had come together, we would have been in big trouble

Without the Turkish stream, it would be virtually impossible to supply the country with a sufficient amount of natural gas, as Peter Szijjarto stressed on his social media page.

As he wrote, the fact that Hungary became the first non-Turkey-neighbouring country to which the Turks exported natural gas also played a role.

According to the Prime Minister, “We bought 275 million cubic meters from them this year, and now we have agreed to continue this cooperation.”

Many people cannot adequately appreciate the importance of this, because, fortunately, they have not had to experience a lack of energy security. If we had surrendered to the pressure of friends and allies, if we had done our best due to threats of sanctions, and if we had not dared to build the TurkStream, today we would have faced a major problem due to the fact that the transit stopped pumping Russian gas through Ukraine as of January 1.

The minister wrote in the post.

He added: “Thanks go to our Turkish friends, who not only built the pipeline with us, but have since then served again as a reliable transit country, thanks to which we can now purchase 20 million cubic meters delivered daily and more.” Gas through the Turkish Torrent, like last year, all year long.”
