Support for Kepler GPUs has been introduced in a new version of the popular streaming app OBS Studio

The development team for OBS Studio, a very popular application used by streamers, has decided to remove support for the Kepler architecture from the recording and streaming software in question, so those who want to continue using it will have to have a GeForce GTX 600 or GeForce GTX based streaming device. Video from the 700 series, you must use an older version. The change will take effect starting with version 31.0.0 Beta 1, and subsequent software releases will adapt to it as well.

The first generation version of the NVENC engine was introduced on board Kepler series graphics processors, which provides GPU-based hardware acceleration for encoding various video formats, thus taking the burden off the CPU, since it is a fixed-function target hardware that can work with Minimal CPU and GPU load. Support for video cards built around the Kepler architecture has recently stopped around Nvidia, with regard to the GeForce driver, so it was actually expected that sooner or later the developers of the various software would abandon the respective GPU generation .

The first generation NVENC engine on board Kepler-based GPUs was not very versatile at the time, could only provide hardware acceleration using H.264 codecs for video encoding, was not completely ideal in terms of image quality, and in some cases Processor operation, it is surpassed by video encoders running in software, in terms of performance. As all beginnings are difficult, rapid development began after the appearance of the first generation NVENC, and subsequent solutions were already more impressive in terms of performance, functionality and image quality.

The new version of OBS Studio offers not only support for Kepler GPUs, but also new functionality, for example, it comes with the option of Nvidia Blur Filter and Background Blur, but at the same time, a slider and an indicator showing how much zoom/scale has been added Also to the preview. The latest version comes with Amazon IVS integration, and YouTube Chat services have also been added thanks to Google developers.
