The two millionth car was completed at the Mercedes factory in Kecskimet

October 24, 2024 – 12:45 pm

In October, the two millionth car was completed at their factory in Kecskemet, according to the press release from Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing in Hungary.

The company began operating in Hungary in 2012. First, Mercedes-Benz B models were produced in Kecskemét, followed by the first model, the CLA Coupe, which is exclusively manufactured here and exported from here. In 2021, the first purely electric car, the EQB, was added to the range of cars manufactured here, and the two millionth Mercedes produced in Kekskemet was also of this type.

Four models are currently produced at Kickskimet: the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the CLA Coupe and the Shooting Brake, as well as the Mercedes-Benz EQBs. In the future, they want to produce two more models in Hungary, so they have begun expanding the plant worth more than one billion euros. As part of this, a new body and assembly plant will be built, as well as a new battery assembly plant, and production will be further optimized using digital solutions.

According to the company's statement, the reorganization of production will lead to increased employment at the factory and in the network of local suppliers, thus creating new job opportunities in the medium term.

Last year, Mercedes finished a particularly good year, increasing its sales by 26 percent, from 3.96 billion euros in 2022 to just over 5 billion. In return for good performance, he paid a total of 1.09 million Hungarian forints to all his employees in addition to their wages for the month of March. However, in March, factory workers staged a warning strike after several months of wage negotiations failed to reach a wage agreement with Mercedes.
