On Sunday, October 27, 2024, iFixit shared a video of its iPad mini 7 teardown, raising more questions about how to “jelly roll” the device.

Jelly scrolling indicates a screen issue where text or images on one side of the screen seem to skew downward due to different refresh rates. This can cause visual disturbances that are difficult to ignore once they are noticed. Some users also noticed this phenomenon with the iPad mini 6 in portrait orientation, which led to years of complaints, although not everyone was bothered by the issue.
Although an Apple spokesperson previously stated that “jelly scrolling” is “normal” behavior for iPads with LCD displays, it appears that the company has tried to minimize the effect on the iPad mini 7. According to several reviewers, this phenomenon is less noticeable or It's not at all noticeable in the latest iPad mini, and Apple has vaguely hinted that display-related changes have been made to mitigate the issue.
It has been suggested that Apple may have reversed the position of the display controller in the iPad mini 7 to make it less noticeable in the “jelly scroll” portrait orientation, but interestingly, according to iFixit, the position of the display controller is unchanged from the iPad mini. 6. iFixit determined that Apple used some unknown “trick” to reduce the “jelly roll,” so it's still unclear exactly how it solved the issue.
The teardown video also revealed that the Apple logo on the back of the iPad mini 7 can be removed, but otherwise the internal design of the device is similar to the iPad mini 6. Apple launched the iPad mini 7 last week, with key features including the A17 Pro chip , Apple Intelligence support, and Apple Pencil Pro support.
