An approximately 10-minute video with Joe Ziegler, the game's director, was posted on Marathon's official YouTube channel, talking about the current stage of development.
Introduced at last year's Summer Game Fest from Bungie, in the introspective PvP shooter set in a sci-fi setting, you'll have to reach an exit point using loot obtained from others on the planet Tau Ceti IV. In the end, the planned release this year did not materialize, perhaps due to the fact that Joe Ziegler – who was also Valorant's game director – replaced the previous game director (Christopher Barrett) in March, and in August a Bloomberg insider gave his opinion. On the reboot of the classic Bungie game, which also did indicate that the project will reach the finish line soon.
We didn't get much insight into the gameplay from the just-released video, and Ziegler explains what shooting like that entails, and how risky it is to create a game of this type nowadays. In principle, development is progressing well, and the different components look good individually, but it is not yet there to show the big picture big picture.
If all goes well, Marathon will be released sometime in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series Play tests.
