A higher percentage of people under the age of 40 are actually infected in Brazil
More and more people under the age of 40 are being attacked in Brazil by a locally developed type of coronavirus, according to a report by the Brazilian Society of Intensive Care Physicians, reported by Reuters on Tuesday.
In the intensive care units of Brazilian hospitals, the proportion of patients under the age of 40 is 52 percent, an increase of 16.5 percent from December and February. Experts are guessing the explanation for this phenomenon, according to MTI.
One of the assumptions could be a locally identified virus type in Manaus, other than the primary virus in Wuhan, which appears to attack young people more virulently.
Another explanation might be that vaccination is increasing among the elderly and that young people are less isolated and do not have enough fear of the epidemic.
Brazil is currently the global epicenter of the epidemic. More than 4,000 people die from the plague every day for the week now, with more than 350,000 dead.
There are not enough places in hospitals to provide intensive care and some are dying awaiting an “evacuation”.
On Tuesday, for fear of a Brazilian species more contagious than the Coronavirus, the French government suspended air travel with Brazil until further notice.
