Apple’s AirDrop feature is a convenient way to share files between devices, but security researchers at Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany warn that the app may not only share the files we choose.
Researchers say unauthorized people can discover phone numbers and email addresses of nearby AirDrop users. A malicious user only needs one device connected to a Wi-Fi network and must remain near the device to be clicked. You can then easily open the AirDrop sharing pane on your iOS or macOS device.
If a user has enabled AirDrop by default, you don’t even have to start posts to allow unauthorized strangers to view your files.
The vulnerabilities don’t mean that a tech company, in this case Apple, couldn’t fix it anymore. As for researchers at the German University, on the other hand, Prof. Gizmodo They stated that Apple had already been notified of the error in May 2019. However, the tech giant has not told its customers that they know about the error, nor that they are working to fix it.
According to the researchers, this means that a billion and a half Apple devices may still be exposed to these security risks.
