Pakistani police have arrested the owner of a cable car that broke down and trapped eight people in a cabin over a huge chasm, reports say. BBC. Drone footage was taken at the scene, where you can see people being rescued up close.

Six children between the ages of 10 and 16 and two adults were traveling on the wire rope track. The group was on their way to school when two ropes broke. Then there was a 15-hour drama, stretching into the night, until the Pakistani authorities finally managed to rescue everyone from the cabin. In the cabin was a group of students and their teachers, who were passing over a river valley at an altitude of 350 meters. And here, hanging above the dizzying depths, they spent the next fifteen hours as darkness fell upon them.

The location and strong winds made the rescue very difficult, and eventually Pakistani army helicopters and special forces were deployed, while local television broadcasted everything live.

In Pakistan, cable cars are not necessarily aimed at tourists, in many places they are the most efficient mode of transportation in the mountains, and people use them to go to work or children to school. Accidents and even deaths are a regular occurrence as these structures are usually not well maintained.
