An unexpected horror film is quickly climbing into the top 10 global horror films on Netflix, despite being released almost two years ago.
Barbarian ranks high on the streamers' charts, and is currently ranked second in the world, as shown on Flex Patrol On May 9th.
The Airbnb nightmare film comes behind Kuwaiti romantic comedy Honeymoonish, and ahead of the star-studded Netflix original Not frozen. Barbarian rose from last week to No. 10 with 4.6 million viewers from April 29 to May 5, according to I know.
Written and directed by Zach Krieger, the film follows a young woman who arrives at a rented house in Detroit late at night to find that the house is double-booked and that a mysterious man is already staying there. With the only other option being to be left alone in a dangerous neighborhood, she chooses to stay. But there's a twist as mysterious noises have been coming from the basement below for a long time, proving that there's a lot to be afraid of in the house other than an unexpected guest.
Since its release on Netflix, the film has gained some new fans and brought back some old fans as well as people discover and rediscover the 2022 film. “Rewatching Barbarian, this movie holds so tight,” one posted Twitter userwhile last “It was one of the best horror films I've seen in a while, so much so that I'd watch it again,” said those who watched it for the first time.
The film's sudden resurgence in popularity is not surprising, as Barbarian was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike upon its release.
