Dr. Peter Bolt received Mr. David Pressman, Ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary, on a preliminary visit to his office.
Ambassador David Pressman will perform his duties in Hungary starting August 2022, and the current meeting was the first official meeting between the two parties.
At the meeting, the Chief Prosecutor presented the role, powers and constitutional position of the Prosecutor’s Office in the Hungarian legal system. He stressed the activities of the Public Prosecution in the field of combating corruption, and referred to the establishment of the “Supplementary Alternative Special Prosecution,” which is considered a new tool to combat corruption. He stressed the importance of cooperation with various European Union and international organizations, and highlighted the excellent partnership with the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) that has existed for several decades.
The American side was briefed on legal and practical issues related to the activities of the Hungarian Prosecutor’s Office, its relationship with the European Prosecutor’s Office, and new anti-corruption tools. Participants agreed that further deepening the excellent working relationship between the Hungarian Public Prosecutor’s Office and prosecutors in the United States of America is in the interest of efficient criminal proceedings.
At the end of the meeting, both parties aim to enhance cooperation.
