The fortified settlement, which was built on the water, is found in Lin near the Albanian shore of a lake called the Pearl of the Balkans. According to the researchers, the village standing on stilts is hundreds of years older than the earliest known settlements in the Lake District.

However, in addition to the ancient settlement, something strange has also caught the attention of archaeologists. Remains found in the lake indicate that the settlement of 200-250 people was surrounded by a palisade, and the inhabitants cut down “the equivalent of a forest” of trees in order to protect themselves with pointed logs. Divers have found about one hundred thousand of these woods at the bottom of the lake, but there is still no answer as to what the inhabitants of the settlement eight thousand years ago defended so intensely.
Albanian archaeologist Ilir Gibali said that Lake Ohrid is about a million years old, and the people who lived in the area were engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, and thousands of ancient seeds and remains of plants and animals were found in the area over the years.
