Hi, what are you looking for?

A place where you can isolate yourself from reality.

A place where you can isolate yourself from reality.

This hotel truly takes you away from everyday life: visitors go alone, hand over all digital devices upon entry, and only meet guests from other countries. These are the 14 days when hygge and zen come together, and where tours will be adjusted according to the moon cycles.

A special project is being prepared. 14 days Name: A hotel that combines the most beautiful elements of Zen and Hygge. Location: Denmark, Lake Esrum, north of Copenhagen, with the Nordjylland nature reserve on its western shore.

14 day form

The project responds to a situation that is familiar to all of us: we have access to a lot of information, our brain is constantly clicking on something, and it is difficult to distance ourselves from this situation, to step back a little, relax, and think from a bigger perspective, on a broader scale.

14 Days, which was deliberately designed by Japanese architectural firm Kichi to experience peace, space and time, creates the opportunity for all of this.

By definition, and beyond the obvious hygge, this is where the Zen line comes in: lead designer Naoyuki Kikkawa has added his own culture, as well as his architectural expertise. But that’s just the basics – the hotel uses unusual and powerful means to ensure its guests are as disconnected from everyday life as possible.

14 Days is a return to nature, a place that, in the words of the designers, is about “forgetting your bank account, tomorrow, your social relationships, your gender, your profession, your nationality, your career, and even who you are! Everything.

Clear your mind and open your eyes!

So the first step is to retreat to an unknown place, far from the monotonous hustle and bustle of everyday life, to a complex of buildings in harmony with the cycles of the sun and moon, where the five basic elements of Eastern philosophy appear: water, metal, earth, fire and tree.

In addition to the geographical distance, there is something else that separates visitors here from everyday life: you have to be here without digital devices, and you can only check in alone – and on the other hand, each of the sixty guests will come from different regions and countries. By definition, for fourteen days. Three types of spaces are planned for the project: place, people, time.

The turn times are adjusted according to the lunar cycles: a) during the full moon and ends at the full moon, b) at the waning moon and ends at the new moon.

Yin Yang also appears: Yin is the grass moon dome, the underground guest accommodation, and Yang is the community space above ground, parallel to the lakeshore, thirty meters long. As they say, “the perfect quarantine from everyday life.”

Technically, it is an off-grid building complex, with power coming from solar and wind power plants, water purification equipment and microbiological fermentation treatment systems, energy production from biomass and waste, clay cladding on the walls, Japanese tatami mats in common areas, and other materials sourced locally.

And what does a hygge-zen hybrid look like? Instead, let's quote the designer: “In Zen you search for your true self, in hygge you search for true happiness.”

For this, it is necessary/possible not only to meditate: visitors can practice yoga and dance. The central building has sixty rooms and a restaurant, the bedrooms have water beds, daylight and aroma. There will also be a hot tub, sauna and spa. There are also many outdoor activities: forest bathing, regular bathing, SUP, fishing, painting. The cuisine will be Japanese, where the menu will also be adapted to seasonal changes.
