Procaccini, an MEP for the right-wing ruling Italian Brotherhood (FdI) party and co-chair of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), believes Giorgia Meloni did a good thing when she said no to the left when it comes to European appointments, saying Italy needs the right weight to offer in Europe, with your head held high, without machinations or deception.
The time has ended when Italy plays the role of a passive spectator in Europe, adapting to the decisions taken by other countries and to the previously agreed upon lists of candidates, which is not worthy (…) of the Europe we want to build.
Procaccini insisted.
Antonio Tajani, go to Italy! The FI leader believed that Giorgia Meloni was negotiating in Brussels not on behalf of the Romanian government forces, but on behalf of the whole of Italy. He pointed out that Rome wants to obtain the portfolio of chief commissioner and is applying for one of the vice-presidential seats of the European Commission. He added that as a member of the European People's Party, he immigrated to Italy! He does not subscribe to the way senior leadership positions are distributed, but he votes for Ursula von der Leyen. As for Matteo Salvini’s statement about the coup in the European Union, Tajani replied that it was a political opinion. “This expression is not mine,” Antonio Tajani added.
