A sad start to the year: we have to say goodbye to Ubisoft and EA games soon!

Fans of Ubisoft games should keep January 25th in mind as it will be a particularly sad day for the publisher. Additionally, EA is preparing a similar purge in the near future…

January 25 will be a sad day for fans of Ubisoft games. Because the servers of ten addresses are down on this day! It's always sad when a video game company confirms that their game servers are down. EA maintains a running list of upcoming shutdowns (see below). Now, Ubisoft has also given fans advance notice of which games will be retired in the near future.

The unfortunate reality of online gaming is that game servers will eventually crash. Sometimes it's not that important, but other times entire game modes become completely inaccessible and are practically lost forever. This is devastating for those who care about preserving their video games, but unfortunately, nothing can be done about it. Hardware evolves, new games appear, and there are always only a few players who can play online multiplayer games.

With that in mind, Ubisoft fans may want to make it a priority to check out the online features of the company's 10 games that will be shutting down on January 25.

Specific platforms vary, but Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Heroes of Might and Magic 6, NCIS, RUSE, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Trials Evolution online services will be discontinued. On January 25th.

List of Ubisoft game server shutdowns on January 25:

  • Xbox 360: Assassin's Creed 2 – Xbox 360
  • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood – Mac
  • Assassin's Creed Liberation HD – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
  • Assassin's Creed Revealed – PC
  • Ghost Recon Future Soldier – PC
  • Heroes of Might and Magic 6 – PC
  • NCIS-BC
  • Trick – PC
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction – Xbox 360
  • Evolution Trials – PC

For some Ubisoft games, online features weren't central to the experience anyway. like Like Assassin's Creed 2 For a single game on Xbox 360. In other cases, a server outage will be more damaging. For example, in the case of Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier features several online multiplayer modes that will be retired once the servers shut down on January 25.

Another thing for Ubisoft fans to keep in mind: the suspensions also mean that Ubisoft accounts cannot be linked to these games. Ubisoft Connect rewards can no longer be claimed either. Anyone interested in Connect Rewards or the online features associated with these games should be sure to play them between now and January 25.

Cleaning around EA's gaming house

As of this writing, EA has announced eight games that will lose their online service in 2024. As players turn to new games and hardware evolves, EA will shut down online servers and related features for some of its games.

In fact, on December 8, 2023, EA has just wrapped up its seven games. Online services for Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Crysis 3, Dante's Inferno, Dead Space 2, and Mirror's Edge Catalyst were also down on this day.

This effectively means that some of the game modes associated with these games, such as Dead Space 2's multiplayer mode, are gone forever, which is disappointing to say the least.

Although it's always sad when EA shuts down its online game servers, the company at least usually gives fans advance notice before shutting them down. For this reason, fans already know about eight EA games that will be shut down in 2024. Seven of these games will be shut down on March 21. On March 21, 2024, the online servers for F1 2011, F1 2012, F1 2013, F1 2014, F1 Race Stars, Micromachines World Series and Rocket Arena will also be down. The eighth game that EA has confirmed will lose its online services in 2024 is Madden NFL 20, which will shut down on April 15.

EA games to stop in 2024:

  • F1 2011 – 21 March
  • F1 2012 – March 21
  • F1 2013 – March 21
  • F1 2014 – 21 March
  • Formula 1 Racing Stars – March 21
  • World Precision Machinery Championship – March 21
  • Rocket Arena – March 21
  • Madden NFL 20 – April 15

Formula 1 games will likely be discontinued due to expiring licenses. In fact, all Formula 1 games that will lose their online service on March 21, 2024 have already been deleted. This means that new players will only be able to play them if they can track down physical copies. As for other games, Rocket Arena's closure has been a long time coming. Because the live service game did not receive any major new updates shortly after its release. Being a premium release despite the free-to-play environment, it was doomed from the start. Not to mention, Rocket Arena has already been removed from the list.

And sports games like Madden NFL 20 are shut down so regularly that fans may have gotten used to it.

It's worth noting that it's entirely possible that EA could discontinue more games than those listed here. Right now, EA fans only have March 21 and April 15 to worry about.
