According to the mayor, the results of the current testing period prove that the new traffic order is working well.
According to Gergely Karácsony’s message posted on his social media page, more than 12,000 people traveling on Lánchíd buses need to spend a total of 368 fewer hours traveling in a single day. For example, he stated that the journey from Krisztina tér to József palatán tér took an average of more than 8 minutes before the renewal began, and today buses cover the same journey three minutes faster, at just over 5 minutes. The mayor wrote: Traffic has become not only faster, but also more predictable.
Previously, buses were regularly stuck in traffic jams on the bridge and its surroundings, and this was bad for everyone, regardless of whether they were stuck between the two banks while sitting in a car or a bus.
– commented the city manager, who said that the Budapest Traffic Center (BKK) will continue to check traffic on the Chain Bridge so that Budapest residents can form a firm opinion on the final traffic order for the bridge.

The Chain Bridge was put into temporary traffic on December 16, 2022, and since then it can be used by BKK trains, taxis, and people traveling by bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters. According to temporary traffic rules, people driving private cars cannot walk on the bridge, and the no entry sign warns against this.
The bridge can be used on foot after the final phase of the renovation is complete. And BKK announced earlier that the construction will continue according to the original plans, including the completion of the piers and underpasses at the bridgehead, as well as the reconstruction of the monument elements, meaning that the bridge will be a working area until then. It was delivered in full. A decision on the final traffic order for the bridge will be taken in the summer of 2023, after obtaining the opinion of Budapest residents.
