Alex Marquez seems to be having fun in his new Ducati, Ducati. Results are starting to show for the Spanish competitor, but he knows he still needs to improve a lot.
Alex Marquez had difficult years with Honda, not getting the respect he wanted, constant failures, and as a result he completely lost his confidence. On his Ducati debut, he finished ninth in the sprint race at Portimão with a fifth-place finish in the main race, followed by a ninth-place finish in the sprint race in Argentina and a third-place finish in Sunday’s match, which was also his first podium finish with Ducati.
The two-time world champion even questioned his former team about whether he could even ride a motorcycle
Even after the good results, Alex Marquez knows that although the first two rounds have helped his confidence, that this is only the beginning of the season, he still needs to improve a lot. “Although I am very happy with our current level, we have to be realistic. We are not yet at the level of the best Ducati racers and we have to keep working to keep improving. However, after a difficult few years, these results are very good for my confidence.”
His brother, Marc Marquez, is the king of Cotta, but this year he will miss the American race weekend due to injury, as well as last year’s winner Ina Bastianini, so the “little brother” joked that their chances of winning the first place increased a lot.
“If Mark comes here, you only have a 50 percent chance of winning. If he’s not here, maybe an 85 percent chance.” – joked Alex Marquez.
The Spanish driver knows he won’t have a straight road to the podium this weekend. “It’s a new track for me on the bike, so I don’t know what to expect. If we had the chance to get on the podium, of course we would take it, but our realistic chances are currently between fourth and seventh.”
