By 2028, we could reach a minimum wage of 1,000 euros. – This is what the Minister of National Economy, Marton Nagy, said at his press conference on Tuesday, in which he spoke about file It was reported. According to the head of the ministry, the amount of the mandatory minimum wage may increase from HUF 266,000 to HUF 377,000 in three years.
The government's goal is for the minimum wage in Hungary to reach 50 percent of the average wage, the minister said.
This can be done by increasing the minimum wage by 11 to 12 percent annually through a three-year wage agreement.
As we have previously written, an agreement in principle on catching up with local wages between employers and trade unions could be reached as early as September. Although the plan for the next agreement is still being formulated and many points await clarification, it is already clear that only the six-year wage agreement of 2016 will be comparable. All organizations involved in the agreement agree that the 2016 agreement was a success and led to a significant increase in the standard of living in Hungary.
Real wages rose by a total of 45% during this period, which was also the highest among the Visegrád countries. However, the full truth also includes the fact that the goal of raising the minimum wage in Hungary to the regional level was not achieved. The agreement now being formed could change that too.
If the minimum wage is increased by 12 percent on January 1, as the minister said, it could total HUF 300,000 as of 2025.
