These remains came to light in the 1350s, and many believe they were used to cover Jesus Christ and his face can be seen on them, but some consider this to be a lie. In the 1980s, they were subjected to radiocarbon dating, which proved that the material was i.e. not. dateable to between 1260 and 1390, which surprised many.
The latest study takes a different approach to dating the shroud. Instead of relying on radiocarbon dating, the researchers X-ray analysis was used to examine the linen fibres in the shroud.Based on this study, the researchers concluded that: The shroud was created at the time of Jesus Christ. Thus, the research team does not claim that the shroud has anything to do with Christ, but only determined its age.
The researchers believe that the cellulose in the shroud’s fibres has aged more slowly since the 14th century due to lower temperatures, with most of the shroud’s aging, about 90 percent, occurring before the 14th century. Of course, further analysis is needed to confirm their findings.
During the research, it was proven with the help of X-rays that it dates back to the time of Christ.
