According to Polish media, the Polish party will remain in the European Parliament faction, with which Fidesz will form a group.

Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party has agreed with Italy's Brotherhood of Italy (FdI) to remain in its current faction in the European Parliament, according to the Polish Press Agency (PAP). EURACTIV to attest.

The news is important from the Hungarian point of view because Nepszava wrote about it on Wednesday: Fidesz will establish its own faction in the European Parliament. This information was confirmed by Euronews and Politico correspondents.

“It’s 50-50 percent that they will leave their current group, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR),” said Mateusz Morawiecki, a representative of the Law and Justice party and former prime minister, according to an article published by Politico early Thursday afternoon. Although Telex was supposed to report on the opening meeting of the European Council on Wednesday, it was postponed twice and is now finally scheduled for July 3.

The founder of the Czech ANO, who has made headlines with the group, has already announced that “we will create a new faction.” Andrej Babis posted on Instagram that “more will be known soon.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Balazs Orban's political director did not deny the reports on Thursday either. Asked whether Fidesz would set up a new faction in the European Parliament, he said: “There will be some announcements soon.”

On the other hand, the PAP knows that PiS agreed with FDI on the distribution of leadership positions, which is why they postponed the founding meeting of their faction. PiS did not want Euractiv to confirm or deny the Polish news agency's report.

Based on European Parliament data, the Law and Justice Party won twenty seats in the elections that took place from June 6 to 9. This is twice what Fidesz obtained, and the other parties that floated in the press are smaller than it.

Creating a new faction requires 23 representatives from seven countries. PiS and Fidesz will therefore jump to the second condition together, but in the absence of the Polish party, this is no longer a given, and will depend on the other partners.
