According to the German Federal Minister of Health, due to the omicron variant, a fourth dose of the vaccine against the new type of coronavirus disease SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) is required after the two-dose vaccination and the booster vaccination.
In response to a question at a press conference in Berlin, Karl Lauterbach said that there is no data yet on how long the booster vaccination will protect against the omicron version, but “as a scientist, I suppose a fourth vaccine is needed as well”.
The Social Democratic politician is one of Germany’s most respected public health experts. The government epidemiologist said that vaccination will play an important but not exclusive role in overcoming the epidemic, and the health care system will also be strengthened.
The director of the University of Cologne’s Institute of Health Economics and Epidemiology (IGKE), who is on unpaid leave due to political work, said the government was already preparing for the fourth phase of the vaccination campaign: an improved version of omicron, a developed vaccine for which 80 million doses are expected.
In Germany they close Nightclubs after Christmas. Family and private vaccinations are allowed for up to 10 people, the number is even less for unvaccinated people: they can meet up to two people who do not live in a home. It is predicted that within weeks, the Omicron will be dominant there as well. (MTI)
