After a failed period with the main team Red Bull Pierre Gasly After a summer vacation in 2019, he returned to the sister team, AlphaTauri, and has remained the lead pilot for the Faenza unit ever since. Once he regained his confidence, the French started to produce excellent results, which he culminated in with his first impressive victory at the Italian Grand Prix last year.
Gasly continued to shine in 2021 and kept AlphaTauri almost alone in the fight for fifth place in the constructors’ championship. While his team is currently associated with Alpine, Gasly is ninth on the pilots’ table, buoyed by Baku’s finish on the podium and fourth.
According to the team boss, Gasly is improving from race to race, as evidenced by his recent excellent results in qualifying. In the last two big trophies, he’s also overtaken Ferrari and McLaren, who fought in the constructors’ championship.
“Pierre is constantly increasing his performance. Because if we compare it now to the start of the season, he has taken another big step forward in his behavior in the car, in understanding the technical side,” Tost said before last week’s Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.
“Changing a few modes during the qualifying round will help improve your performance, and he did it fantastically, that’s why he became a 5. It shows how mature you are, how much you understand the technology of the car, because these cars and the engines are very complex.”
Alpine and AlphaTauri are 112 points behind Brazil. Although Tost admits their car is the faster of the two at the moment, he remains cautious that “race can change everything” given that Alpine has won the Hungarian Grand Prix with Esteban Ocon.
“Usually, the Scuderia AlphaTauri has to finish forward because I think our car is faster,” he admitted.
“We have two great pilots and the team is doing a very good job as well. But you can never tell what’s going on because the Alps are almost over. [lehetséges] Register in Budapest. This means that everything can change within the race. So, until it becomes mathematically clear, you can never say you are ahead.
Giovinazzi criticized him and Vasseur responded: “We have to remain professional.”
