Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported in a video message on Saturday evening that Russian forces attempted to expel Ukrainian forces from their positions in Russia's Kursk border region. However, according to the president, Kyiv forces are successfully controlling their positions.
As for the Kursk operation, Russia has tried to back away from our positions, but we are sticking to the defined lines
Zelensky said.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Friday that Their forces regained control of two villages in the Kursk border region. This area is where Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale incursion in August.
The Ukrainian president admitted that the goal of the Kursk advance was to withdraw Russian forces from the front lines in eastern Ukraine. In this region, Russian forces have made steady progress in recent months.
In his speech, Zelensky stated that the situation in the Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions, which are partly under the control of Russian forces, remains very difficult.
Very difficult conditions prevail, with the enemy's harsh actions. But the flexibility of our units is crucial. It all depends on our flexibility
– confirmed the Ukrainian President.
The Russian Defense Ministry also announced Ostrovsky's arrest on Friday. This village is located on a reservoir near the town of Kurakhov and was a major Russian target during the advance into the Donetsk region. Although Ukraine has not officially acknowledged the loss of the village, Russian military bloggers have reported progress in the area.
