Adam Sandler plays a Czech astronaut in his first sci-fi film, which appears to have a meditative tone. A short but much more engaging sequel from the upcoming Netflix production next spring has now been leaked.
American comedian Adam Sandler, 57 years old, can shine with his dramatic spirit in his first science fiction work. The movie star brings to life an astronaut of Czech origin in director Johan Renck’s The Astronaut (Chernobyl), which will be released on March 1, 2024. In recent decades, the Sandler name has become synonymous with comedies revolving around underworld jokes, but the production… It is supervised by Netflix, and it may represent a qualitative leap in his career.
The movie – which Based on the novel Bohemian Astronaut by Jaroslaw Kalvar, the film chronicles the most dangerous expedition of astronaut Jakub Prochazka (Sandler). A man travels to the edge of the galaxy in search of ancient space dust, while contemplating his past, his life on Earth, and the most pressing questions of existence.
Forced to watch his inner world crumble, he can only turn to one voice for comfort and compassion—except that voice belongs to a mysterious being from the beginning of time, who has secretly hidden in our hero’s spaceship.
The voice of this strange creature called Hanush is provided by Paul Dano, and we will see Carey Mulligan in the role of Jacob’s wife, but Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin and Isabella Rossellini enhance the cast as well.
Incidentally, Netflix first announced the expected big-screen adaptation of Kalfař’s novel in October 2020 – the project was then still under the title The Bohemian Astronaut. In April 2021, it was revealed that in addition to Sandler, Mulligan, Dano, and Nayyar would also star in the film, and filming began at that time and continued until June. The crew worked mostly in the Czech Republic, Prague and surrounding areas. The production was originally scheduled to premiere in 2023, but the show was greatly delayed due to the writer-actor strike in Hollywood. The public can see the astronaut for the first time in February 2024 at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.
