After 20 years, Apple will say goodbye to the iconic button forever

An era in the history of iPhone – Apple has officially canceled the production of the last house button. With the disappearance of iPhone SE (Generation 3), we owe a feature that defines Apple phones for nearly two decades.

When Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone in 2007, it invaded the simplicity of the home page button immediately. With one gesture, we were able to return to the home screen, easily switch between applications, and activate Siri later from here. However, the real penetration was created by the iPhone 5s, which got a built -in fingerprint reader. Not only did Touch ID open the phone opened more safe but also faster, which was at the time a great innovation.

The change was inevitable

Over the years, the Apple design philosophy has increased to the display screens without frame and the busto -based navigation. In 2017, with the appearance of the iPhone X, the home page button finally disappeared from the high -end models and was replaced by the face and touch movements.

On the other hand, the company left the door open for a long time for those who insisted on the classic button – the iPhone SE series remained. Another display of this model, the third generation SE, for the first time in 2022, is a smaller show and a traditional treatment with modern devices.

Final farewell

Although users with the home page button were still hoping, Apple finally closed this chapter. The change was also partially accelerated by organizing the European Union, which requires mandatory use of USB-C connectors in new devices. As a result, Apple stopped the IPHONE SE and iPhone 14 distribution in the European Union at the end of 2024.

The last angle to the coffin was the arrival of the iPhone 16e – the company stopped selling SE's models around the world as of February 2025, and finally the home page button said goodbye.

The iPhone 16e is already completely USB-C and is based on the facial identifier, and finally seal the home page inheritance. For Apple fans, this is a moment of nostalgia, but the direction of technological development is clear: the future is to control touch and face recognition.
