The sandwich maker introduces a new menu called the Subway chain, which is radically at odds with the previous “do-it-yourself” business model.
The menu offered in the US includes 12 permanent sandwiches that guests can order unchanged – Business Insider writes. What makes Subway special compared to other fast food restaurants is that the employees prepare the sandwiches right in front of the guests, who can point out the ingredients that go into the sandwich one by one. There is no news yet on whether Hungarian stores will be affected by this change.
“Customers go to Subway with the expectation that they can freely change their sandwiches (…), and Subway has been built on this basic principle and has been operating according to this principle for 60 years,” states the fast food chain’s press release.
According to those interviewed by Business Insider, one possible reason for offering a permanent listing is that a consolidated listing can make service easier and faster, and speed leads to more sales and higher revenue. Subway has a relatively low sales number compared to other fast food restaurants, so with this step you can also increase your competitive edge.
Good news: For now, the permanent menu only comes as an add-on, and you’ll still be able to order a sandwich to suit your taste.
