Just over a week ago, in the final days of September, Hurricane Helen tore through the region, killing at least 225 people and leaving hundreds more missing.
The National Hurricane Center confirmed that Milton strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday and could threaten lives along parts of the Florida coast. The storm is likely to make landfall sometime Wednesday afternoon with winds of 190 km/h. A state of emergency has been declared in 51 counties in Florida.
Milton, due to low vertical winds and very high sea level temperatures, will continue to strengthen rapidly over the next few days.

Floods from the storm inundated neighborhoods and destroyed homes in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.
