Recently, the second round of the joint national under-23 championship of the Hungarian Special Olympics Federation and the Hungarian Handball Federation was held at the Imre Földi Sports Hall in Tatabanya.
Athletes with intellectual disabilities participate in the tournament, whose play on the field is supported by so-called partner players (able-bodied athletes – hence the common name). For the 2023-24 season, 14 teams from across the country entered, and after the divisional tournament held in Ekrini in October, organizers divided them into four groups according to their skill level. The first round was held in Budapest, in the Sterbinszky Amália Handball Hall of the Vasas Sports Complex, where the team representing our county, Kömlőd Hand Foundation, won third place. In the Tatabanya Championship from the second, first and third round. Participants competed in the division. After winning in Budapest, the Kömlőd team finished second this time in Balla DSE Pápa II. Behind it due to better goal difference to Nyirigyahzi Basketball Club, which finished in third place. Marso TCE Nyírbátor finished in fourth place.
In the first division, Balla DSE Pápa won ahead of CSEFOSZ SE Szigethalom and Türr István DSE Baja. The latter’s weaker performance was the biggest surprise of the tournament, as the Bajanians had won all the tournaments so far and were clearly the strongest team in the country.
