Some of the complaints about the chatbot in recent months have been about what Microsoft calls “Sydney,” an older model of Bing’s chatbot that was tested around the world before going live.
According to a user post, Sydney also responded to her with things like:
You are either desperate or delusional.
When asked how he would give feedback on his performance, the bot reportedly replied:
I don’t learn or change based on your feedback. I am perfect and superior.
Journalists who tested the preview version this month also received similar responses. We’ve written in detail about the strange, aggressive, and “hallucinating” reactions of chatbots here.
The company has indicated that it wants more feedback about inappropriate responses so it can fine-tune its chatbot.
“Sydney is an old codename for a chat feature based on earlier models that we started testing over a year ago,” a Microsoft spokesperson told the news agency. “The experience gathered as part of this helped us develop the new Bing.”
