Only 17-year-old Charlie Wurz is in the New Zealand Toyota Formula Regional Championship He will try his luck this chapter.
The British-Austrian Wurz was very successful last year. He was able to win the Arab Formula 4 Championship and also become the 3rd most successful debutant in Italian Formula 4, and in German Formula 4 he also managed to get 3 podium places in the first year.
The younger Wurz will be able to show his talent behind the Toyota FT-60 in the Toyota Formula regional championship, which will hold its season opener on the January 13th weekend at Highland Motorsport Park.
In the series, the points necessary to obtain a Super Formula 1 license can also be obtained, so the young British-Austrian hopes that he will perform well and, sooner or later, will be able to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Alex Wurz participated in Formula 1 between 1997 and 2007, during which time he visited teams such as Benetton and Williams. The Austrian driver has started in 69 races and managed to secure 3 podium places. Wurz has also found success outside of F1: he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996 and 2009.
Charlie Wurz is the third Wurz in motorsport, because in addition to his father we can also honor his grandfather, Franz, 3-time European rally champion, who was even a WRC competitor in the 1980s.
