That ’70s Show started on August 23, 1998 on FOX and ran until 2006. In Hungary, HBO Comedy aired it only later, from January 4, 2010. Actors such as Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis played in this series.
In the first episode of Season 5, a bearded Red Foreman (Kurtwood Smith) tells Stephen Hyde (Danny Masterson) that:
“Shut it up. And go shave that thing! You look like a fucking Hungarian.”
In Hungarian, this means:
“Shut up, then go cut that thing off! You look like a sleazy Hungarian!”
It is not known why this was included in the series, what was the problem with growing a beard, and why the actor immediately thought “sleazy Hungarian” about him, in any case, the Americans fell laughing when they heard this the first time.
Perhaps it is because they included this joke because of the Hungarians during the Reformation, although in the dubbed version it is translated as
“You look like an old Hungarian.”
Speaking of Mila Kunis, the actress speaks Hungarian in one of her films – more precisely, in our language, she was lucky at the Vienna train station.
