Also this year, Vienna was named the most deprived city in the world

A survey conducted among foreigners (“expats”) ranked Vienna as the most unfriendly city in the world again last year and this year.

Although the Austrian capital still ranks among the top ten for quality of life in the “Expat City Ranking 2022” survey by Internations, it also finished this year in the friendliness category – Writes Daypress.

One Swede who lives there, for example, said: “I don’t like everyone here being malicious and unfriendly.” According to the overall score, Vienna ranked 27th out of 50 cities this year, and 14th out of 57 cities last year.

At the same time, Vienna also scored highly in the categories ‘Travel and Transportation’ (1st place) and ‘General Health and Wellbeing’ (2nd place). Foreigners praised public transport (97% satisfied, compared to the global average of 73%), and medical care and high environmental quality were rated very well.

On the other hand, the Austrian capital took the last place in the “inclusivity” category, and it also came last in the “friendliness” category. The foreigners described the local population as unfriendly in general, and hostile in particular towards the foreign population.

According to the survey, 54 percent of foreigners find it difficult to make friends with Vienna (world average: 37 percent). Another 32% didn’t feel welcome – the city took last place here, too.

According to a survey of 11,970 foreign nationals, the most popular city is Valencia, Spain, followed by Dubai and Mexico City. In contrast to Vienna, all three cities score highly on the integration rating for foreigners.
