Amazing Numbers: Google and Microsoft Really Consume Energy

Google and Microsoft data centers' energy consumption will exceed 24 terawatts per person in 2023,

This is roughly the same amount of electricity committed by Azerbaijan, which has a population of 10 million.

It lags only slightly behind Slovakia's annual consumption of 5.4 million. The surprising data was published by journalist Michael Thomas in his X entry.

Additionally, according to Google's latest annual environmental protection report,

In the past five years, the company's greenhouse gas emissions have increased by 48 percent,

The main reason for this increase was the expansion of data centers used for artificial intelligence.

Kate Brandt, Google's chief sustainability officer, said that while they are committed to a 2030 goal of achieving net zero emissions, she acknowledged that the goal is very ambitious.

We still expect our production to rise further before it declines.

According to Brandt, Google is working hard to reduce its emissions and has signed several clean energy agreements to do so. He added that There is serious potential for AI to be used in climate protection solutions.
