On October 20, David Pressman, Ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary, visited Békésixaba. The Ambassador paid tribute to the gastronomic traditions and history of the region at the 26th Sapa Sausage Festival, where he met members of the Sapa Sausage Club and the Bikissaba Youth Association, as well as many young people participating in the annual sausage-making competition. He tasted several types of local sausages and knitted an apron to learn the art of sausage making from a young team member.
Speaking to local journalists, the ambassador said: “Since my arrival in Hungary, I have been trying to visit as many places as possible. Everywhere I go, I am always amazed by the diversity, creativity and sense of life of that place, and this is no different in Békissaba.”
Speaking to the student mayor of Pékissaba, Ambassador David Pressman János Hajdu noted that he was impressed by the enthusiasm shown by many young Hungarians to preserve the important traditions of the place.
“Hungarians are particularly proud of their rich history, traditions and culture. One of the great advantages of being the US Ambassador to Hungary – regardless of the political situation – is that I get to meet Hungarians, get insight into their customs and taste their food. It is easy to understand why they are proud of their culture.” .
Aside from Budapest, Ambassador David Pressman has so far visited ten counties in Hungary, and his goal remains to meet Hungarians from all over the country who have a wide range of life situations.
