Ambassador David Pressman visited Veszprém County
The United States Ambassador to Hungary, David Pressman, visited Veszprém County on August 25 at the invitation of Minister of Regional Development Tibor Navratskes, where he met with Hungarian business, cultural, scientific, civil society, and local government leaders. Minister Tibor Navarchics, Mayor Gyula Borja, and Aliz Markovic, CEO of Vesprym-Balaton, European Capital of Culture 2023, took the Ambassador on a tour around the historic city center of Vesprym, as well as viewing the contemporary art of Laszlo Vas Getemini.
At the joint press conference with the Minister at the Foton Audiovisual Centre, the Ambassador said: “The Hungarians with whom I came into contact, both in Budapest and in the countryside, were consistently positive and encouraging. It is great to be here now with Minister Tibor Navrasics and to focus on culture and art. I believe it brings our peoples closer together by rising above some of the political challenges of our day.
The Ambassador also visited the housing project supported by the Maltese-Hungarian Charitable Service, which provides basic services to the economically disadvantaged population on the outskirts of Veszprém. Since 2009, the organization has been assisting in the comprehensive renovation of the facility to provide safe living conditions for the city’s neediest individuals and families. David Pressman applauded the initiative and said: “The way it takes care of its most vulnerable members says a lot about the quality of a community. Such a project is the embodiment of the highest level of humanity, behind which lies the commitment of the people of Fishbrim to support their neighbours.” The ambassador also met with representatives of Bannon University to discuss possibilities of strengthening US-Hungarian scientific partnerships.
David Pressman was greeted by the mayor of Herend Laszlo Janski, who accompanied him on a tour of the world-famous Herend porcelain factory. The United States, as one of the largest export markets for Herend’s products, remains an important trading partner for the company. The Ambassador greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet this important symbol of Hungarian artistic talent and cultural pride.
Besides Budapest, Ambassador David Pressman has so far visited nine provinces and continues to build relationships with Hungarians from all over the country.
