On November 2 and 3, David Pressman, the US Ambassador to Hungary, traveled to Washington to consult with high-level US government officials about US-Hungarian bilateral relations, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Budapest.
Accordingly, during his discussions, the Ambassador also met with senior representatives of the executive branch, including senior officials in Congress, the White House, and the State Department.
The ambassador last visited Washington in the spring, then in Budapest and, in an unusual diplomatic move, announced a press conference in which he declared:
“We are concerned that Hungarian leaders are striving to establish closer relations with Russia.”
Half an hour before the press conference, the United States announced that the Russian spy bank partly owned by Hungary and its Hungarian head had been added to its sanctions list. We wrote more about how Hungarian-US relations got to this point in this article.
