The authorities are struggling to eliminate them.

A county in Florida had to be closed due to some kind of African-American snail, because the authorities could not control the situation. On June 23, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Protection announced that the species had been detected in New Port Richey, Pasco County, and quarantine orders were issued. According to the regulations, plants, arable land, garden waste, compost, debris and building materials cannot be taken out or brought in from the area. metro.

The common African agate snail can also cause serious damage in nature, consuming at least 500 different plant species. Moreover, they even eat the paint and plaster of houses due to the calcium present in them.

The snail species was first found in Florida in 2011, and has since caused losses of $10.8 million (HUF 4.3 billion). They multiply quickly and can lay up to 2500 eggs per year. Since they have no natural enemies here, it is difficult to get rid of them.

It lives up to nine years and can grow up to 20 centimeters.

It is believed that giant snails appeared in Pasco County through the illegal animal trade, because keeping this species as a pet is prohibited in the United States.

The authorities are trying to deal with the situation with venom, but it could take up to three years. After revelations in 2011, that county, Miami-Dade, was only able to rid itself of snail populations by 2021.
