Mark Brzezinski, U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, Minister of National Defense, and Lieutenant General John Kulaszki, commander of the U.S. Army’s Fifth Corps, participated in the opening ceremony Tuesday at the headquarters.
In his speech, Blaszczak appreciated the fact that American forces are already permanently present in Poland.
Blaszczak emphasized that the first permanent American garrison in Poland and the eighth in Europe is important not only to Poland’s security, but also to NATO’s eastern flank.
Kulaszki described the establishment of the permanent garrison as a sign of American involvement in increasing the security of Europe and Poland.
Today, there are more Allied soldiers serving in Poland from Allied countries than at any time in NATO history
– The American first lieutenant confirmed, by which he means that about ten thousand American soldiers are currently stationed in Poland permanently and on a regular basis.
Under US command, a NATO contingent of British, Croatian and Romanian soldiers deployed to the eastern part of the country in 2017.
According to US reports, the purpose of the forward command in Poznan is to enhance and integrate US operational capabilities in Europe. Last year, the command named Camp Kosciuszko after Tadeusz Kosciuszko, a hero of the Polish and American wars of freedom.
