The unluckiest lottery player in Great Britain was briefly in the dark because he thought he had won £11 million (more than 5 billion forints). It wasn't long before he was proven wrong.
All six of his numbers were drawn in the lottery, yet he did not win a single penny. Mark FletcherBritain's unluckiest lottery player – The Daily Star writes: British tabloid newspaper.
The 49-year-old from Wigan used the National Lottery mobile app that runs the game. He entered his lucky numbers and, after the next draw, couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw that all six numbers had been drawn. The jackpot was worth £11 million (5.1 billion forints) that week, and Fletcher was in the clouds calling the winners’ hotline.
It took forty-five minutes for the phone to be answered, and then a woman told him that Fletcher had not actually won.
“I didn’t understand what was happening, the woman said I didn’t win, then when I asked her if the app was just malfunctioning, she denied it too. She kept asking me if I had played my numbers.
A National Lottery spokesperson said the app allows players to select and save their favourite numbers to check when they were drawn in previous draws. However, saving favourite tracks does not mean players will actually play those tracks. Although Mark Fletcher’s saved numbers were drawn on June 29, he did not provide a voucher.
Mark Fletcher says the story is troubling him. He spends sleepless nights wondering what would have happened if he had actually won £11m.
