Today, the United States imposed new sanctions on three Russian television stations, banned Americans from providing accounting and advisory services to Russians, and also imposed sanctions on senior executives of Gazprombank.
According to the White House, the sanctioned TV channels are directly or indirectly controlled by the state, with sanctions affecting Russia’s Channel One, Russian TV Station 1, and NTV Broadcasting.
The new round of sanctions is also an important step because the actions taken against the leaders of Gazprombank are essentially the first measures taken against the source of Russian gas, as the US and its allies have so far avoided steps that could lead to a disruption of gas supplies. to Europe.
A US government official told the press that the current sanctions are nothing more than steps against some senior executives working at Gazprombank, but that it does not freeze Gazprombank’s assets or prohibit any transactions with the financial institution.
Eight Sberbank executives were also added to the list of sanctions, and the Moscow Industrial Bank and its 10 subsidiaries were also added to the list.
Among other things, sanctions were imposed on the arms manufacturer Promtekhnologiya, as well as seven shipping companies and the Qatar Bahri Company. The White House also announced that the Nuclear Commission will suspend licenses to export special nuclear materials to Russia.
