Bayonetta’s voice actress, Hellena Taylor, will not return for Bayonetta 3, with Jennifer Hale taking over the role.
Bayonetta’s voice actress Hellena Taylor will not be returning for Bayonetta 3, according to PlatinumGames.
The release of Bayonetta 3 is very close, and little by little, more and more details about the latest version of the popular franchise are emerging. One unfortunate fact about the new game is that the original voice actress for the title character will not be returning to Bayonetta 3.
The Bayonetta The franchise began in 2009, and the third installment of the franchise, Bayonetta 3, was announced in 2017 during The Game Awards. Since the first match, the title character Bayonetta has been voiced by Hellena Taylor.
There has already been speculation about Bayonetta 3’s voice changing, as another voice actor was already in the role in the final trailer. This was officially confirmed by PlatinumGames, who stated in an interview with Game Informer that the replacement would be Jennifer Hale, known from Mass Effect. According to director Yusuke Miyata, the change was made due to “overlapping circumstances” and added, “Jennifer’s performance is far beyond what we could have imagined.” Fans can rest assured that the Japanese version of the game will still feature Atsuko Tanaka as Bayonetta.
Being a new voice actor can be risky, especially when the original actor has been with the franchise since its inception and has become adored by fans. With all the hype surrounding Bayonetta 3 as the latest installment in a popular franchise, it has other expectations to live up to.
It’s unfortunate that Helena Taylor wasn’t able to return and rejoin the cast of Bayonetta 3, but she could be a solid replacement for Jennifer Hale. Hill’s record speaks for itself. The transition between voices is unobtrusive, as Hill’s voice picks up where Taylor established the character and how it should sound.
Many new games, especially new versions of popular franchises, come with little changes, whether it’s gameplay, characters, or even higher stakes over the years, as is the case with the Bayonetta franchise. The changes can be difficult to counteract, but this should not have a significant negative impact on the value of enjoying the game.
Bayonetta 3 will be released on October 28, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
