The same chip will reportedly be used for all four models.
Apple's biggest fans are probably already sitting on edge waiting for the new series to arrive. It won't be long, as the iPhone 16 family is likely to arrive sometime in September, as usual. However, the base model and the three extended models bring something new compared to all previous series.
While the Standard and Plus designs have always received the chip from the Pro and Pro Max devices from the previous series, it now seems that this habit has been broken in the case of the iPhone 16s. According to the news, Apple will equip each member of the new series with the A18 chip.
This is because the incoming Apple Intelligence works flawlessly on all versions. The previous chapter will only be preserved to the extent that the two Pro models will include an improved version called the A18 Pro. The information comes from a person named Nicholas Alvarez, who leaked encrypted information on Apple’s backend.
According to the report, the leaked code reveals five new model numbers (iPhone17.1 to iPhone 17.5), all of which share a common identifier that likely means a single chipset family. The first four codes clearly belong to the four regular devices, however, the fifth code could cover the new iPhone SE.
Pro versions could get better camera and gaming features, and possibly additional GPU cores. By the way, with this move, Apple has shifted to the business practices of competitors like Samsung or Google, who have been using the same chipset in all members of their series for a long time, despite the differences in several other things – display size, battery capacity, etc. – also have different terms.
The iPhone finally had to stop years of practice because the upcoming AI platform is so resource-intensive. I might want to make the new flagship feature available equally to all model variants.
