The area around Lake Balaton offers many opportunities if you want to relax with children. Fortunately, the weather is becoming more and more favourable, so more and more attractions and program opportunities are opening up to hikers. If you also want meaningful recreation with your family, take your pick!
Veszprém Zoo
Although it's not exactly Balaton Beach, Veszprém Zoo is one of the most popular hiking spots in the area.
The zoo offers countless animals and interesting things, so we recommend a trip from opening to closing. In this case, there is plenty of time to enjoy the animals, a great lunch, ice cream, a petting zoo, and of course the indispensable Dino Park, where the little ones can do archaeology. If you start at the lower entrance, you can get around the entire zoo with a pleasant walk back and forth, and there will also be plenty of time to play in the huge playground at the upper entrance.
Inland lake at Tihany
One of the most famous natural attractions of Lake Balaton, it is one of the most famous natural treasures in the Balaton Upland National Park. The lake is located in the center of the Tihany Peninsula and provides a unique habitat for many species of animals and plants.
The surroundings of Tihany Belső-tó offer a stunning view, and there are many parks, hiking trails and viewpoints in the area. The area is a very popular hiking area and is visited by many tourists throughout the year.
There are many accommodation options, restaurants and cafes around the lake. The area also has a rich historical and cultural heritage, such as Tihany Abbey and other attractions on the Tihany Peninsula.
Children will enjoy walking around the lake and observing the local flora and fauna, as well as running freely on the football field next to the lake, enjoying ice cream in the area and admiring Lake Balaton.
Major Salvoldi
Salföldi Major is one of the iconic sights of Balaton Upland National Park. This museum village showcases traditional Hungarian peasant life and is extremely rich in historical and cultural values.
At Major, you can learn about village life in the early 19th century, where buildings, tools and objects that have survived over time give a true picture of life at that time. The Museum Village includes more than 50 buildings, including farmhouses, barns, a mill, stables and a windmill, which have been restored and renovated.
Among others, it is possible to learn about traditional Hungarian animal breeds, such as Mangalica pigs, Raka sheep, and Hungarian sport horses. Experiences are also part of the living museum at Major, such as peasant food tastings, animal petting, equestrian programs, handicrafts, and horse-drawn carriage rides.
Of course, the surrounding area also offers plenty of leisure and entertainment opportunities. At the Salföldi Arboretum you can find more than 450 species of trees and shrubs, but there are also many hiking trails leading to the Tihany Peninsula.
The Major offers great attractions for the whole family and shows visitors important traditions of Hungarian culture and lifestyle.
