Arsenal defeated Manchester City, the Champions League winner, on penalties, to win the English Super Cup (Community Shield) for the 17th time. In the first half of the match, only yellow cards were scored, but after the end of the half, the coach of the English Premier League champion and FA Cup winner, Pep Guardiola, replaced three of his players, and not long after, Kevin De Bruyne passed the ball into the goal. The ball went to Cole Palmer, who shot from the 16 line into the net to take the lead
In the 11th minute of stoppage time, Arsenal equalized with a rebound shot, so the referee ruled for penalty kicks. The Gunners hit all four of their shots flawlessly, while Manchester United missed two of three and lost the duel.
