STEAM DECK NEWS – The next version of the ROG Ally laptop from Asus will improve several things, although we doubt that the company will improve the SD card reader mode, which is, to put it mildly, flawed in the base model. .

The release of the Asus ROG Ally VideoCardz has already narrowed down the information to the point where these are no longer rumors, and it actually appears that they are no longer joking. According to them, the new laptop will feature the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU as the currently available model. They won't change the display either: it will still have a 7-inch (17.78 cm) display with a 120Hz refresh rate and will be able to run VRR (supports variable refresh rate).

However, in the case of memory and battery, we can report important changes: the Asus ROG Ally In the first version, the power was only 40Wh, so we could use the device for a longer period before it needed to be charged. Best of all, the weight of the device has not increased significantly either, as it has become heavier by 70 grams, and its thickness has increased by 5 mm. The RAM will be 24 GB LPDDR5 instead of 16 GB. This allows the device to deliver more to the graphics chip, resulting in better performance without the need to use a new chip or architecture. There's also a second USB-C port at USB4 speed, which is worth its weight in gold for docking and charging.

According to Sean Hollister, editor of The Verge, the back of the machine no longer has those weird sharp protrusions, so it's easier to get your hands on it without accidentally pressing one of the rear actuators. The triggers and buttons are also more durable and feel better, according to him. If the device is targeting the value of around $800 leaked (~320,000 HUF), the Steam Deck OLED could be a good alternative.

However, this is still unofficial. The device will be launched on June 2.
