This is a rare look into daily life in the North Korean capital.
Almost every month, alarming news comes out of North Korea, which has been largely isolated from the world for the past seven decades, and has recently been moving closer to Russia, and the number of video recordings leaving the country without state control has also risen. It has been close to zero for many years.
This seems to be changing recently, however, and little material shows as good an insight into the daily life of the capital, Pyongyang, as that recorded by two Indonesian tourists – likely in the time period when people commuted to and from work.
During the twelve-minute bike ride, we can also pay attention to curious details: perhaps the most striking are the lack of advertising posters and roofs, the absolute cleanliness of the wide streets, and the wide variety of cars on the road, from military jeeps to old Mercedes to new cars. – Including the 2008 model with a third-generation version of the Lexus LX produced between 2021 and 2021 – the most versatile SUVs appear on the street.
Commenters on the recording, which was discussed in several Reddit posts recently, discovered that based on the environment, the video was created in 2019 at the latest, as the university hospital appears in the third minute.
