The Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) has fully paid off its 2021 debt to the International Association of Athletics Federations (WA), VFLA CEO Irina Privalova announced.
Irina Privalova He did not talk about the size of the amount, but only said that the fourth quarter installment was transferred on Friday.
This is how we finally paid off all the debts last year with the International Federation.” Privalova said.
Last month, Ron Andersen, who heads the VFLA task force in Washington state, announced that the Russian Federation still had debts.
The VFLA was suspended from membership in November 2015 following the Russian athletics scandal after a report commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) found evidence of mass doping among Russian athletes. Since then, athletes have not been able to represent their country in international competitions, they can get a competition license only at the end of a special procedure, and even in the case of a positive assessment, they can compete only in neutral colors.
The suspension, which has been extended more than fifteen times so far, has been maintained by the FIA partly because of new doping issues and partly because the Russians were reluctant to pay the fine imposed on them.
In the summer of 2020, the Russian Federation avoided disqualification by paying Western Australia $6.31 million. The amount was provided by the Russian Ministry of Sports, because the VFLA was not able to transfer on its own. In March, Western Australia fined its Russian member organization $10 million for doping fraud.
