Australia is still interested in hosting the 2034 World Cup

Australia continues to explore the possibility of bidding to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Council announced on Wednesday the possibility of Spain, Portugal and Morocco hosting the 2030 World Cup, but the first three matches – in conjunction with the centenary celebration – will be hosted by Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, as the first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930.

FIFA then urged member associations in Asia and Oceania to submit bids to host the 2034 tournament.

Saudi Arabia already signed up to host the 2034 World Cup on Wednesday. Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the AFC, said that “the entire Asian football family supports” the Saudi initiative. Australia has previously expressed its interest in the 2034 World Cup, and James Johnson, Director General of the Australian Federation, responded to FIFA’s indication that the interest still exists, and there is no change in this regard.

“As previously reported, the FFA is considering the possibility of bidding to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and/or the 2034 FIFA World Cup.”“- his statement stated.

The deadline for official confirmation of interest is October 31. Australia – and New Zealand – hosted the Women’s World Cup this year, but have not yet hosted the Men’s World Cup. He entered the battle to organize the 2022 World Cup – awarded to Qatar – but was eliminated in the first round of voting.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico – no longer 32 teams, but 48.
