Over 90,000 spectators visited the Red Bull Ring to witness Francesco Bagnaia’s third consecutive MotoGP victory. Besides the Ducati rider, fellow Ducati rider Jack Miller also managed to podium – for the second time in a row with the Australian.
Miller’s third place was preceded by hard work: Jorge Martin chased him closely to the end, but the Pramac Ducati rider made a big mistake shortly before the start, so he not only got on the podium, but also collected points for him – he was finally separated in the center The tenth.
The Austrian Grand Prix time trials gave Ducati an advantage – representatives of the Italian brand took five of the top six – and Enea Bastianini took first place in his career, so he could start from the front the next day at Red Bull.
After the lights went out, Bagnaia immediately deprived his compatriot of first place, and Miller and Jorge Martin lined up behind the two Italians who tore up the field.
It didn’t take long for the first elimination, as Joanne Meyer crashed her fourth turn, thus ending the race for her.
The first overtaking of the top four was carried out by Miller, the Australian overtook Bastianini for first place and continued behind his teammate. Then Martin also had a big fight with the Italian, which was made special by the fact that they both applied for a factory seat in 2023. The Spanish-Italian match finally won the first player mainly due to Bastianini slowing down and ending up in a gravel bed.
Meanwhile, defending champion Fabio Quartararo climbed on the neck of Maverick Vinales who inherited fourth place, and soon the world champion overtook the Spaniard, and even then another champion in the person of Jorge Martin, as well as the Frenchman. He was already on the podium.
In the lead, Miller also tried to get past Bagnaia, but the Italian repelled the attack of the Australian, and by the last third of the distance he had an advantage of one second.
Miller tried to hold on to second place, but Quartaro not only climbed on his neck, he also overtook him, so the Australian’s goal since then has been to take the last place on the podium, which he held after a big fight against Martin – thanks also to the fact that the Spaniards In the end he erred.
In the end, Bagnaia easily won the race ahead of Quartararo, whose title defense – thanks to his main rival Aleix Espargaro’s sixth place – that second place was also a victory.
Bagnaia also won the Red Bull Ring after Assen and Silverstone, making it three straight victories, while Miller claimed his second consecutive podium.
Luca Marini was the best player outside the podium, while Johann Zarco finished the top five.
The MotoGP 2022 race continues in Misano with the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks.
