Austrian presidential election: polling day is out, congratulations are in order

According to data from the pollster ARGE, Van der Bellen, who ran as an independent, managed to get 55.9 percent of the vote, which ensured his re-election already in the first round. According to a survey conducted by public opinion research company SORA on behalf of Austrian public television ORF, a 78-year-old politician could receive 54.6 percent of the vote.

“For us, it would be very appropriate that this was the result,” Van der Bellen spokesman Stefan Götz-Bruha said on the ORF after presenting polling day poll data.

According to the ARGE survey, Walter Rosenkranz, candidate for the opposition Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), received 17.9 votes, Beer Party Chairman Dominic Lazne received 8.8 votes, Lawyer Tassilo Valentine received 7.7 votes, and Gerald Grosz, Beer Party Chairman. The FPÖ and the former politician from the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ) party managed to get 5.9 percent of the vote. The other two candidates could get close to 2% of the vote.

According to ARGE, the turnout was 67.5 percent.

Walter Rosenkranz also congratulated the incumbent on his re-election.

Speaking to the Austrian news agency APA, he said that he was very satisfied with his personal performance, although he did not achieve the goal of being in the second round, but he did achieve the goal of taking second place.
